Description
Though the modern man goes to great lengths to obtain job knowledge and acquire skills, yet these do not of themselves guarantee success. The ability to get along with others also counts. William James, American psychologist and philosopher, was right when he said, “Human relations are the main thing.” Realizing the need to improve human relations the author offers his readers practical advice which may be summarized thus: ■ Smile at people. What sunshine is to flowers, a smile is to humanity. ■ Call people by name. The sweetest music to anyone’s ears is the sound of one’s own name.■ If you would have friends, be friendly. Listen attentively and patiently. ■ Be cordial. Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure. ■ Be genuinely interested in the other person and his/her problems. ■ Be generous with praise, reserved with flattery, cautious with criticism. ■ Respect another’s personality and individuality. ■ Be considerate of the feelings of others. It opens the door to their hearts.
